Maihöfli

a restaurant that combines history and modern fine dining.

In Lucerne, on Maihofstrasse 70, there is a restaurant that is deservedly considered to be one of the most interesting gastronomic locations in the city.

The restaurant is located in the building of 1896, and after a large-scale restoration it got a new life – preserving its historical charm, but at the same time supplementing it with modern design and high level of service.

Concept and cuisine

Maihöfli is a restaurant that relies on seasonality, innovation and balance of taste. The team of chefs works with local products, combining classic techniques with international gastronomic influences.

The specialty of the evening menu is the set format:

  • 5 courses – $151
  • 7 courses – $184
“Lamb | Olive | Lime
It combines tender lamb meat with a crispy herb crust, the piquancy of olives and the freshness of lime. The composition is accentuated by a sauce and garnish with a modern twist, creating a rich yet balanced flavor profile.
“Trout | Oyster | Bean.”
It combines the tenderness of river trout with the sea freshness of oyster and the velvety texture of a bean-based dish. Flowers and green accents add lightness and elegance, while the herb butter sauce creates a harmonious balance of flavor.
“Dom Samgyeopsal | Pepper | Salad.”
It is inspired by Korean cuisine: tender dim sum (a traditional interpretation of pork) is served in a delicate culinary composition format that combines the light spiciness of peppers and the freshness of green salad. The balance of flavor is accentuated by the bright dressing, making the dish both elegant and dynamic.
“Pig | Potato | Clover.”
It is designed as a playful yet elegant interpretation of pork meat: the tender meat element is served alongside potato accents and a sauce garnished with crumbles and herbs. A decorative element in the shape of a pig adds a special charm, emphasizing the idea of the dish and leaving an impression of light irony in fine dining.
“Eel | Cucumber | Smoke.”
In the center is tender eel meat, complemented by the freshness of cucumber and greens. The smoke-tinged sauce, which is poured directly when served, creates a sense of theatricality and enhances the flavor. This is a brightly flavored dish that combines lightness and depth.

There is an option to complement the dinner with delicacies such as:

  • 10g Kaviari Kristal caviar – $35
  • jersey Blue cheese – $20

Vegetarian and vegan options are easily found on the menu, as well as gluten-free and lactose-free dishes. The cuisine is constantly being updated, but examples of summer sets include: trout with oyster and beans, carrots with kimchi and gari, and other interesting combinations that surprise in both flavor and presentation.

“Carrots | Kimchi | Gari
It combines the tenderness of carrots, the fermented notes of kimchi and the flavor of pickled ginger (gari) to create a bright, multi-layered composition with fresh and sour-spicy accents.

At Maihöfli, desserts are served in a modern style – light, balanced and not too sweet. Seasonal ingredients and interesting flavor combinations often appear on the menu:

“Macaron | Buckwheat | Currant.”
Classic French macarons are served here with rich currant filling and served on a bed of roasted buckwheat, which gives the dish texture and light nutty flavor.
