Mountain Luxury: Why Chez Vrony in Zermatt Is Switzerland’s Gastronomic Benchmark
In 2026, the legendary mountain restaurant in Zermatt, Switzerland, remains not just a cult destination for skiers and high end tourists, but a true benchmark for those who appreciate contemporary gastronomy and authentic luxury.

The restaurant is located in the tiny, picturesque village of Findein at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, right next to a ski slope. The terrace offers an incredible, breathtaking view of the majestic Matterhorn—it’s no surprise that the outdoor tables here are in wild demand.

The restaurant’s history is impressive: it was once a modest, spartan farmer’s hut high in the Alps. Over more than 100 years, the Jülen family has transformed it into an outstanding family run business that preserves the warmth of tradition and is in perfect harmony with nature.

Chez Vrony is one of the few places that uses its own organic produce. All animals are fed exclusively on Alpine grass, and the air-dried meats, homemade sausages, and cheese are made according to time-honored family recipes.

The menu harmoniously combines classic Swiss recipes with exquisite dishes featuring an international flair:

The restaurant takes particular pride in its carefully curated wine list, which perfectly complements Alpine cuisine. It features the finest Swiss wines (especially local varieties from the Valais region), as well as refreshing aperitifs and signature cocktails.

Sitting on the sunny terrace with a glass of chilled white or exquisite rosé wine against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks and the majestic Matterhorn is an integral part of the ritual and atmosphere at Chez Vrony.
Owner Vroni, together with her husband Max and the team, creates an atmosphere where every guest feels not just like a visitor, but like a dear friend. Here, genuine warmth, heartfelt hospitality, and impeccable attention to detail reign supreme.

Chez Vrony is much more than just a stop on the slopes while skiing or hiking in the summer. It’s a place with a centuries-old soul, where the coziness of a mountain cabin blends with impeccable service, and every dish tells the story of generations of the Yulen family.

Leave your phones in your pockets, enjoy the incredible panoramic views, savor organic delicacies paired with a glass of fine wine, and feel not just like a tourist but like a long-awaited guest—that’s why people keep coming back here time and time again.
